Things to Do
Around & About the Dulas Valley
A rural weekend can involve so much more than just tramps in the countryside, although there is a plethora of choice for walks. Our Shepherds Hut and Mongolian Yurt are lauded by past guests for their privacy and tranquillity but if you want to venture further afield there are Castles, Cathedrals and wonderfully romantic rural Churches that survived the Reformation because of their remoteness.

A local award-winning blacksmith gives fascinating lessons in iron-work – make your own knives, toasting forks to use around the firepits back at the farm. Just down the road is the Big Pit – a fascinating opportunity to see how 19th century miners toiled underground to mine extract the celebrated Best Welsh Coal, and there are craft-centres a-plenty for would-be basket-weavers, wood carvers and bush-crafters.

Motoring enthusiasts will enjoy the fabulous twisting mountain roads including Jeremy Clarkson’s favourite UK drive high in the Welsh Valleys whilst for steam aficionados the Brecon Mountain Railway winds up through exquisite country on its 10 mile wilderness journey.

There are fantastic local pubs and places to eat to accommodate every taste. From simple pub-grub hostelries, including the world’s most unusual country pub, to a local (excellent) fish & chippy and fabulous – yet affordable – award-winning gastro pubs, a terrific Spanish Tapas bar and a sprinkling of Michelin starred restaurants, there is something for everyone with the majority catering for diverse dietary preferences. We have tried most of them and willingly pass on our experiences and recommendations.

Michael and Candida will guide you through these options and both the Yurt and Hut have loads of maps and guides to all of the above.
